I love how easy this incubator makes the hatching process....right up until lock down. I cannot keep the humidity high enough for lock down unless I raise the lid and add more water to the extra reservoir, which of course brings the humidity down temporarily. There really should have been a way to add water to the other side where the auto waterer is not, without having to raise the lid. Also, you cant just let it keep putting more water in, you have to fill the other side by raising the lid or else the auto waterer will just keep putting more water in trying to raise the humidity, and overflowing. Even though everything else is pretty great about this incubator, this one flaw is a really big flaw when your trying to get eggs to hatch without being shrink wrapped in the egg due to not enough humidity. It is a very important thing and should really be addressed.

35 duck eggs is above the incubator auto-turner motor capacity. I have now downgraded to 30 eggs and I'm waiting to see if it is working now. In the end, I'll be left with non incubated imported duck eggs ($$$) that I tought would fit in (in fact they fit in, but it seems too heavy for the auto-turner). I now need to find an extra incubator in short notice since I received the eggs today. That's not what I expected from a product that was not cheap. I ordered my eggs based on the specs. The auto-heat and auto-humidity control seems to work fine.

We have incubated 2 groups with this unit so far and have had a 93% hatch rate. Unit was easy to set up and program. For the water we are using a peanut butter jar I cleaned and drilled a small hole in the lid. I did notice that short piece of the tubing for the pump did not last as long as the manual suggests it should. I had to change it after the first batch. Will see now that batch 2 is done if I need to do it again. We now have over 100 chicks in brooders to pasture raise for meat, and will have a lot more before it's over. In all, very satisfied with this unit and would definitely recommend it.

Incubation FAQs

Q - Where can I get advice on hatching eggs, I've never tried it before?

A - All you need is in our Incubation Handbook, which is free to download.

Q - How do I prepare my incubator for hatching?

A - Please refer to Pre-season checks for your incubator, a comprehensive guide to preparing your incubator for hatching.

Q - How long can eggs be stored?

A - Most species may be safely stored for up to 10 days before serious reductions in hatch rates are likely but it is always best to set fertile eggs in an incubator within 24-48 hours of obtaining them. Daily turning of stored eggs also helps maintain hatchability. Store eggs in cool, damp conditions.
